I have some gear thats been on Craigslist and on HC off and on for a little over a year, so Im thinking about just taking it down to Guitar Center to trade toward something I might actually use. How are GCs trade values? Are they ridiculously low? What can I expect? First off almost everything in GC is negotiable. Including trade in values. Typically They tell you that whatever your gear sells for used, they'll give you half that. 3 weeks ago I did a trade-in for a Mesa Roadster Combo. I walked in with a used Genz Benz El-Diablo 100 Head ($1400 new) and they offered $500 bucks. A Guitar Center employee clued me in on this once. They offer you 50% of what it is going to sell for. Absolutely not worth doing. I was trading in a guitar and an amp for a new amp. I figured I would get a little bit of money back net of the trade (the new amp cost less than the expected trade value of both trade-ins), maybe $100 or so. The GC dude quoted me a trade in value of $600, or about $200 or so more than I was expecting. I've seen "Trade in and trade up!" written all over ever Guitar Center flyer I've ever gotten, but I was wondering how much they actually give you for You can also visit Robert's Guitar Dungeon on Facebook at fb.me/robertsguitardungeon, or you can search @robertsguitardungeon.
