Cenovus Energy Inc., Calgary, has agreed to acquire ConocoPhillips’ 50% interest in the companies’ jointly owned Foster Creek Christina Lake (FCCL) oil sands partnership as well as the majority of the Houston independent’s Deep basin conventional assets in Alberta and British Columbia for $13.3 billion, including $10.6 billion in cash and 208 MEG Energy Corp.’s Christina Lake oil sands has operated above capacity for every quarter through April since March last year, according to AER data. The company’s Modified Steam and Gas Push technology frees up “steam to be redeployed” to new well pads, spokesman Davis Sheremata said in an email. The oil sands will generate over 1.5 million barrels of oil per day this year, according to the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, a Calgary-based group. That accounts for more than half the oil that Canada pipes to the United States (Canada is its neighbor’s single biggest source of imported oil).
